Tribeca Screening for With Honors Denied
NEW YORK, New York (May 8, 2004) - With Honors Denied made its "Big Apple" debut today at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival, where it was presented to a full-capacity crowd. The screening was attended by several of the filmmakers, including composer Jeanette Alexander.

The Tribeca Film Festival was envisioned more than two years ago by a group led by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and Martin Scorsese, with its mission to contribute to the revitalization of Lower Manhattan in the wake of September 11th. The festival has rapidly become one of the most popular and influential cinema gatherings in the world.

Jury Honors for With Honors Denied
NEWPORT BEACH, California (April 23, 2004) - Judges at the Newport Beach Film Festival selected With Honors Denied as Best Documentary Short. Several hundred people attended the awards ceremony, during which director Mimi Gan's sister, Wei-ling, accepted the award on the filmmaker's behalf.

The documentary was given a repeat screening over the weekend along with the other award-winning films from the festival.

With Honors Denied has now been selected for a total of three major film festival awards since its debut last summer.






More With Honors Denied Screenings Added
SEATTLE, Washington (April 18, 2004) - With Honors Denied has added Las Vegas, Portland, San Diego and Los Angeles to a growing list of audiences across the nation.

In November, the film was shown as part of a University of Nevada Las Vegas short film series. That was followed by two screenings in February at the Portland International Film Festival. The highly regarded Cinema Society of San Diego included the documentary in a screening, attended by the film's subject and her family, which exclusively featured award-winning short films.

In addition, a May 2 showing is planned for the Visual Communication Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film and Video Festival.

With Honors Denied has now been scheduled for screenings in a total of five states and the District of Columbia, including high-profile presentations in both Los Angeles and New York.




With Honors Denied Wins Top Audience Award
PALM SPRINGS, California (September 22, 2003) - Audiences at the Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films votedWith Honors Denied Best Documentary. As one of the festival's award winners, the film was given a special encore screening. The Palm Springs festival is one of the nation's largest gatherings of influential members of the motion picture industry, who often visit the event in search of rising stars and undiscovered talent.

With Honors Denied Plays in Nation's Capital
WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 18, 2003) The DC Asian Pacific American Film Festival presented With Honors Denied at the Smithsonian Institution's American History Museum today. The festival wrapped after more than a week of screenings across Washington, D.C. at prestigious venues including the Hirshhorn Museum, the Freer and Sackler Gallery, and the Corcoran Museum.

First Hometown Screening For With Honors Denied
SEATTLE, Washington (October 24, 2003) With Honors Denied made its Pacific Northwest premiere at the Northwest Asian American Film Festival in Seattle, where the film won top audience honors for Best Film. In addition to the filmmakers, the emotionally charged screening was also attended by the film's subject, Yuki Shiogi, her family and friends.

With Honors Denied Premieres at Maui Film Festival
KAPALUA, Hawaii (June 12, 2003) – With Honors Denied debuted this evening as the opening short form documentary at the Maui Film Festival. The film was seen by a near-sellout crowd at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center’s McCoy Auditorium. The film’s director, Mimi Gan, was on hand, along with co-producer Jim Dever and Director of Photography Tom Voelk. The film was followed by “A Tradition of Honor,” a feature-length documentary detailing the accomplishments of Japanese American soldiers during the war. Following the screening, the filmmakers answered questions from an audience which included several veterans and civilian survivors of the Second World War.
